Champagne is one of life’s simple but finest pleasures! So, we were ecstatic to hear that Four Seasons at Park Lane is celebrating summer with the launch of Veuve Clicquot ‘The Secret Garden’ where guests are also able to sample ‘Veuve Clicquot RICH’, their new versatile champagne designed to drink on ice, with a choice of garnish. Summer frocks ready (and umbrella’s packed – it is the English weather after all), we head over to sample this new offering in Mayfair and prepare to soak up some sun in the outdoor garden as we do.
The familiar orange instantly give this hidden terrace a ‘sunny vibe’, even though we’d just been hit with a bout of torrential rain moments before. The bespoke ‘RICH’ bar stands out amidst the stunning array of beautiful begonias, clematis, salvias and scented jasmine with accents of Veuve Clicquot inspired lantana, geums and poppies all designed by Four Seasons very own florist, Rosalind Ackerley. It’s hard not to get happy snappy with our camera for instagram images with all of the beautiful colours popping out against the urban landscape.
Pictures done (for a moment at least), we settle into our spot and our friendly host Federica, immediately brings us a glass of bubbles and apologises for the weather as we relax into our seats. Fortunately, the sunshine returns, so we take advantage of the warmth and order our second round, a Veuve Clicquot RICH, intrigued to see if it works over ice. ‘The Secret Garden’ mixologists also recommend a garnish of either Grapefruit, Pineapple, Cucumber, Celery, Pepper or Earl Grey Tea, we order one with pineapple and another with cucumber. As a champagne purest (ice would only dilute the yumminess surely?) we are pleasantly surprised and whilst we find the pineapple garnish a little too sweet the cucumber version makes for a very refreshing cocktail.
As we savour RICH, we are greeted by Sous Chef Pablo who promises to bring out some delicious Italian-style dishes that designed to complement the drink, he brings a selection of his favourites, including, Parma Ham with melon, watermelon and goat cheese, one of the best salads we’ve ever had, ‘The Secret Garden Salad, a divine combination of kale, baby spinach, quinoa and beetroot with a grilled prawn on top, an indulgent Portland Crab Tortellini with Lobster Jus and Courgette and a deliciously creamy Burrata Di Andria with Isle of Wight Heritage Tomato.
Full and content we order another glass of fizz, classic bubbles and another RICH concoction this time with Earl Grey tea and order a dessert to share between us, a very unusual cherry trifle.
‘The Secret Garden’ is the perfect place to escape the daily grind, ideally on a sunny day. This urban haven in the middle of London is fabulous for sublime food and sipping away the day with a glass of bubbles or three!
