Martinis are my go to.
So when I heard there was a new bar in town specialising in them, I had to go and check it out.
The Library Bar, which is tucked away in a quiet corner of The Ned, boasts salubrious interiors, with inviting velvet chairs and low lighting.
This spot simply does martinis, champagne and a concise selection of delicious nibbles.
Settling into a nook in the corner, one of the smartly-dressed waiters whipped over with a menu and brought me a welcome drink.
Not being a fan of champagne, I stuck firmly to my favourite and went with a house special vodka martini featuring a shake of Grey Goose, a unique vermouth, orange bitters and garnish of choice. For me, it’s always olives. A sip with a snack!
At the Ned’s Library Bar they will make your martini following your preference in flavours and taste. Fruity or dirty. Wet or dry.
Our charming waiter Jack ran us through protocol and advised us on the best course of action following our house specials.
While my friend went for Konik’s Tail vodka from Poland, I plumped for a variation from London distiller Sipsmith.
Both had a different taste and we had fun comparing notes.
So we didn’t get completely sloshed, we turned our attention to the food menu.
We were told that the manchego, chorizo bon bons and parmesan truffle fries are two popular picks but on the hunt for something a little lighter, we settled on a dozen Jersey rock oysters, rounded out with a plate of wagyu steak tartar and salmon tataki.
The selection we went for was spot on, with the oysters and tartar being our favourites.
The drinks at the Library Bar also come served with olives and cheese sticks, with the olives being deliciously plump and buttery.
After our second martinis – which were slightly wetter – we closed out with a drier rendition.
As my friend Taylor Roark from New York once told me when it comes to martinis: ‘One is too many, Two is just right and Three is not enough!’
I finished things up on number three at The Ned’s Library Bar.
Roark was right.
I’ll certainly be back to this sophisticated City spot for more.
