Moretti Gran Tour has landed in Shoreditch offering visitors the chance to experience authentic Italian cuisine and experiences, in a relaxed outdoor environment.
All our favourties are there: Pizza Pilgrims, Arancini Brothers and Princi’s will be serving up fresh salads, delicious artisan Italian sandwiches and cakes. You’ll also find other exciting regional Italian specialties including traditional pasta dishes from Pasta E Basta and vegan interpretations of Sicilian food from Just Fab. And of course plenty of Birra Moretti to wash it all down with!
They are also running masterclasses in butchery and pasta making where you can perfect your Italian cooking skills. We dropped into the pasta making class to try our hand and discovered it’s a little trickier than it looks….The fantastic team at CinCin guided us through the process, teaching us the tips and techniques needed to make authentic Italian pasta. We were making farfalle (the little bows) so we went through the motions of rolling the pasta, passing it through the machine, cutting it and pinching it into little bows (or butterflies – farfalle is the Italian word for butterfly). We were left with dozens of bows, some tidier than others but a set that looked fairly uniform for an amateur effort. These were immersed into boiling water and strained just a couple of minutes later before being tossed in a sauce of wild mushrooms, sundried tomatoes and mascarpone. It tasted delicious and all of a sudden, we were feeling pretty proud of our efforts. The patience and persistence of our teachers had paid off.
We hung around afterwards enjoying delicious margaritas pizzas, bottles of Birra Moretti and some indulgent Italian gelato. With the sudden heatwave we’ve been blessed with, there’s no better time to enjoy this Italian street food extravaganza and it’s only here until Sunday so don’t miss it!
