If you go down to one pub in London today, you’ll be in for a big surprise.
The charming Gunmakers in Clerkenwell, which is tucked down a cobbled road, has a hairdressers hidden in its attic so you can get a rum, coke and cut at the same time.
I popped to the Gun Club salon on a rainy Wednesday afternoon, where I met the lovely Tim on the top floor.
The attic salon has a nice chilled-out feel, and there is even a small bar with delicious banana-infused negroni mix waiting to be poured.
I explained to Tim that I hadn’t had a haircut for more than three years, as self-beautification is bottom of list and last year I spent most of the time camping and hiking mountains… my blonde locks steadily getting more dreadlock-esque.
He didn’t seem fazed by the challenge of resurrecting my golden mop and I felt confident in his ability to get it in shape.
We quickly got to business, with Tim rustling me up an exotic negroni. It was 3pm, so the red liquor acted as the perfect pick-me-up.
Going to the hairdressers at the Gunmakers certainly is more my cup of tea than the standard salon.
There are just two chairs, so there’s no clattering noise and you can actually have fun conversations with the person scissoring your barnet.
Tim is a great chap and super easy to talk to.
Our conversations ranged from sex swings – long story! – to festivals and the bright lights of Newcastle, where Tim grew up but doesn’t sound like a Geordie at all.
After little over 40 minutes my transformation was complete.
The finished style was finished with some sweet-smelling product from the vegan hair care line, Davines to top things off.
It was a top-notch job, with the craziness tamed and my curls rocking a healthier look.
If you have time after your cut, be sure to stay in the pub downstairs where they also serve a delicious spread of food.
Just pace yourself if you head for drinks before – you might just tell Tim to do something totally wacky with your hair.
