Situated on a quiet cobbled street in the heart of New York’s vibrant SoHo neighbourhood, Firmdale’s The Crosby Hotel is exactly what you’d expect from this boutique hotel group. Classy yet kitsch with elegant nods to British style which co-owner and interior designer Kit Kemp reflects through her special blend of inspired fabrics, textured wallcoverings and colourful artworks. It’s hard to imagine that this hip hotel destination was a former parking lot before its metamorphosis into 11 storeys of exposed brick and loft-style casements.
The hotel exudes style as soon as you walk in, quirky art adorns the lobby and the reception of the restaurant which we had booked ourselves in for dinner. We settle into a comfy booth and order ourselves some perfectly muddled cocktails to start us off Raspberry and Lychee Bellini for me and the Soho Sensation for my friend whilst we browse the extensive menu for dinner options. We settle on a delicious combination of seared halibut, with almond cream, maitake mushrooms and green goddess sauce and crushed avocado, labne, tomato confit on grilled wholegrain bread and fries and mac and cheese for sides. Mains done we jumped straight onto dessert which had a chocolate stout mousse cake, dulce crunch ice cream, chocolate dipped pretzels option we had been eyeing up ever since we saw it on the menu – the dessert did not disappoint, absolutely divine!
The food and service at The Crosby Hotel is exceptional, we were prepared to soak in the New York vibes in The Crosby Bar but wasn’t expecting it to be so cosy and comforting – so much so we wished we had booked into one of the 86 bedrooms and suites over 11 floors of this hotel.
Dinner is a must, but for those looking for something a little festive to celebrate the holidays, also worth trying the special Afternoon Tea (($52 per person including a glass of Champagne, available in December) served in the beautiful Crosby Bar which includes:
Gingerbread spiced English trifle
Chocolate peppermint Swiss roll
Fennel and orange blossom Pannetone
Warm figgy pudding
Cranberry and plain scones with clotted cream and preserves
Spinach and artichoke dip, sourdough boule
Duck rilletes, country toast
Steak & stilton Cornish pasty
Yorkshire pudding, smoked ham, béchamel
We’ll definitely be returning to tick of a few more boxes here including staying in one of the perfectly styled rooms.
