On Sunday 6th July, Suntory Japanese Whiskey brings to life the Japanese star festival, Tanabata at Aqua Kyoto in the heart of the West End. Promising to deliver an authentic taste of Japanese culture, the only public celebration of Tanabata will be host to a variety of sugar, spice and all things nice, including… the refreshing Yamazaki and Hakushu whisky highball cocktails. Yum!
Ideal for a summer evening, Aqua Kyoto’s sun-kissed terrace will be bombarded with lanterns and bamboo wishing trees, to resemble a beautiful Japanese garden. Guests can get involved by tying their own wishes on to the trees, a part of the Tanabata tradition. Tanabata, which is Japan’s answer to Romeo and Juliet, narrates the story of two star-crossed lovers cast to opposite sides of the Milky Way, who are forbidden to meet except on Tanabata. These young lovers make their wishes to meet again and tie them to bamboo trees.
Helping to celebrate Tanabata, is Suntory, a multi-award winning whiskey producer and Japan’s most popular whiskey. Suntory will be showcasing its latest whiskies, including Yamazaki Orange Blossom and Hakushu Summer Twist. Londoners who join in with this celebration will be treated to a complimentary highball cocktail on arrival as well as the atmospheric beats of top Japanese DJ, Koichi Sakai.
If you want to experience a slice of Japanese culture, head down to Aqua Kyoto on Sunday between 2-9pm, and watch Suntory whiskey bring Tanabata to life!
