This month St Giles London announced the return of its zany bed, breakfast and abseil package.
Over the weekend guests took on the daring feat of abseiling off the roof of the property in an effort to raise money for the St Giles’ Hotels with Heart Foundation, and their partner Centrepoint – a leading youth homelessness charity, committed to giving young people a future.
The St Giles London hotel is located in the heart of the historic West End, which is steps away from the British Museum, Piccadilly Circus, Covent Garden, and many other major attractions.
Last year in December, staff and guests of the St Giles London hotel abseiled down 164 feet of the hotel’s building – itself one of London’s most famous Brutalist architectural landmark – and raised over £3,000 in partnership with Hotels with Heart and UNIQLO for Centrepoint and Central YMCA youth programme.
On Sunday, guests channeled their inner daredevil to drop down the full length of the property, which stands at over 164 feet tall, equivalent to nearly 30 black cabs stacked on top of each other.
At over 15 floors sightseers, Sadie Whitelocks from the It’s Rude To Stare team, experienced unparalleled views reaching nearly 15 miles, before landing on Tottenham Court Road, just yards from the tube station.
She joined a number brave guests, including the hotel’s CEO and Hotels with Heart’s founder, Abigail Tan-Giroud, and also Heart FM Presenter, Annaliese Dayes, former America’s Next Top Model finalist.
Commenting on the unusual hotel offering CEO, Abigail Tan-Giroud said: ‘Following the excitement and success of the 2017 abseil event, we are thrilled to bring back this experience and give even more to support the mission of Centrepoint.
‘Here at St Giles Hotels, we are passionate about giving back to our community and committed to making a difference in the lives of the young people as they are the future. This year, we have raised the stakes by matching the funds that this event will raise to double amount given to Centrepoint.’
Meanwhile, Heart FM presenter Annaliese Dayes added: ‘Homelessness is such an important issue, and as it gets colder it will become even worse for those suffering. I’m proud to support St Giles Hotels, and Hotels with Heart and their partnership with Centrepoint to do some much good as possible. I also thought abseiling was a great way to help and experience something challenging to bring out my inner daredevil!’
The abseiling hotel package definitely makes for a different weekend away.
A word of advice… It might be better having breakfast after scaling the building, as nerves can get the better of you.
Oh, and remember: Don’t look down!

Hotels With Heart: A word about its mission
The Hotels with Heart Foundation was born out of a desire to breathe a deeper soul and meaning into The St Giles Hotels group and its team. With hotels in major cities around the world, we impact the societies and communities around us every day, through the interactions that we have with our neighbours, the guests we greet, the jobs we provide, but also the resources of the city that we use. The Foundation lies at the core of the St Giles culture and values, which poses the question – what can we do to positively impact those less fortunate than us? It seeks to find ways for St Giles Hotels to become involved in our local communities; to impact causes that matter to our teams and our guests who become our extended family and to give the individual hotels a soul, a face, a heart. St Giles Hotels is constantly looking to give opportunities to those who have a passion for hospitality, to teach them, to foster the hoteliers of the future and to build a stronger internal hotel team.
Centrepoint – Official Charity Partner of Hotels with Heart
In the summer of 2018, Hotels with Heart selected Centrepoint as its official charity partner to continue to do what we can to make a positive impact on the lives of homeless and vulnerable youth in our communities. Centrepoint is the UK’s leading youth homelessness charity, committed to giving homeless young people a future.
