Fitness and wellbeing have never been so much of a trend and a venue certainly scoring high on both parts is the recently launched South Kensington Club.
The venue which is just a small scamper from the tube station, is steeped in cardio pumping history. Not only was it the birth place of the legendary Pineapple Dance Studios it was also later Ronnie Wood’s notorious music venue, The Harrington Club. As well as rock and roll and spandex, it was also the first London home and studio of the great Sir Francis Bacon.
Thankfully the rich arts heritage has been captured in the design aesthetic and even in the clubs ethos, giving the space a sense of wild luxury as a nod to the spirit of its former residents.
On the top floor of the club, guests can make their way out onto a sun drenched terrace, where they can enjoy one of the clubs home bottled cold pressed juices. If they are after something more substantial the club also offers a restaurant, which is open from breakfast to dinner and serves up nutritious healthy meals which are founded on the principles of a Mediterranean diet.
The spa area offers premium and restorative treatments which have been designed to hydrate, ease stress and reduce the signs of ageing. Each treatment has been tailored for your five senses and on our visit we sampled the Hydrate and Nourish Essential Facial, which we can’t recommend enough for a pre-holiday pamper!
The gym space caters for all levels and is fully fitted out with the latest high-tech citterio designed Technogym Artis range. There are also 3 studios which are an ideal space for private or group classes such as high energy dance classes, barrecore, hot yoga and pilates.
One of the most capturing spaces within the club is the Voyager Club Room, which is full of inspirational books, maps and photographs and is designed to nurture budding adventures. Once a month the room hosts internationally renowned adventurers, pioneers and inspirational speakers allow guests to be inspired to join Club voyages led by in-house explorer Christina Franco. Destinations are said to be inspired by monthly themes which currently include the North Pole, Cycling in Umbria, and food foraging in Sweden.
In one of the world’s busiest cities the club provides a much needed spot of tranquility. Doing wellness more than well, the club has got it right, offering sanctuary with a thirst for adventure.
