November sees the opening of a major exhibition at Somerset House – ‘Valentino: Master of Couture’ is a celebration of the work of one of the greatest and most distinct couturiers of our time.
With a 50 year career starting starting in the late 1950s, this exhibition will feature over 130 hand crafted designs work by icons such as Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Grace Kelly, Sophia Loren and Gwyneth Paltrow. Comprising of dresses made for the catwalk, red carpet and private clients, this exhibition is an ode to a career that has sternly shaped our vision of couture, beauty and craftsmanship.
Valentino: ‘Each of these designs have a beautiful story. The atelier crafted each so diligently by hand, taking hours, sometimes days to complete. The details are incredibly intricate, though outside the runway shows and events, these dresses have rarely been seen, so to be able to showcase these designs at Somerset House, where they can be seen in great detail by the public, is very unique’
The exhibition highlights will include a dress from Valentino’s 1968 White Collection that Jackie Onassis wed in, vintage gown Julia Roberts received an academy award in 2001 and Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece’s pearl-encrusted ivory silk wedding gown.
