After a month of detox and an unintentional pescatarian diet in January, I’ve been making up for lost time this month working my way through some of London’s tastiest meat offerings. With a serious amount of hot tickets for meat lovers in London, it’d be Rude not to.
There’s plenty out there, but some recent favourites include patty masters Burger & Beyond, stellar steak purveyors Hawksmoor and of course, american barbecue joint, Red Dog Saloon.
Red Dog is a traditional Austin barbecue restaurant in Soho, Hoxton and Clapham. They have restaurants in Southampton, Nottingham and Liverpool too.
The menu will make you dribble, dishes like Buffalo wings served with blue cheese dip, Cheesesteaks, Smoked meat platters, Brisket croquettes, Mac & Cheese and more tempt and tease to no end.
To add to the menu, Red Dog have recently launched Whole Hog Sundays available at all London locations. It’s a feasting menu not for the faint hearted and does what it says on the tin, embraces the ‘whole hog’.
Succulent pork – real free range from Blythburgh Farm in Sussex – is hickory smoked on Red Dog’s award winning terrace fire pits for 16 hours with minimal seasoning, letting the juicy joint do the talking. A succulent, coral interior with a crispy, earthy brown top is produced.
The meat is split in to chopped pork, sausages and ribs and served with crispy brioche buns, slaw and pickles. It costs £17.50 per person and there is no minimum number for the feast. So if you fancy a solo Sunday dinner, this is the perfect spot.
Swill a house lemonade or sweet iced tea with your feast or better still, a cocktail or two as we did! We can confirm the margaritas are super sharpshooters.
The Key Lime Pie (£4.50) wass a solid finisher to our feast sprinkled with almond and lime shavings and a hearty dollop of ice cream to round it out.
When we couldn’t possibly eat another bite, it was time to kick back and watch the world go by on Hoxton Square. Embracing the last of the weekend daylight, we supped on another cocktail… or two. Spring has sprung after all.
