A quick power nap and I was as right as rain.
I’d decided to escape the hustle and bustle of Heathrow and check out one of the newest lounges to land at the airport.
The Plaza Premium Lounge, at Terminal Two, boasts bedrooms and showers so you can refresh while on the go.
I was taking an earlyish flight to Copenhagen before hopping on another flight to the Faroe Islands.
I was exhausted and in need of a speedy sleep and the lounge was the perfect spot.
Low lights, high ceilings and neutral interiors helped to further lull me into a zen-like state.
Plug sockets are rife too, so I plugged all of my devices in to charge up while I chilled out.
Unfortunately the day I visited the lounge, its slick spa area was closed, with manicures and massages off the menu.
Instead I went to put my feet up in the main area, taking a morning newspaper and large mug of coffee to hand.
I’d missed breakfast but one of the servers kindly rustled me up a fresh fruit salad in the kitchen.
I wish I’d had more of an appetite that morning, as the lunch dishes on offer looked divine.
It was probably some of the best lounge food I’d ever seen, with bubbling stews and curries luring the lounge-goers in.
Colourful salads and daintily-prepared desserts added to the mix.
Following my coffee, I had a punchy whisky topped up with water – my secret weapon to sleeping straight-through on flights.
So if you’re departing through Heathrow any time soon, I’d recommend checking out the Plaza Premium Lounge.
It certainly helped kick my trip off on a high.
Next time a massage and a dollop of that delicious-looking chicken tikka masala will be in order!
