AGUA Bathhouse & Spa is an oasis of tranquility in the basement of the newly opened Mondrian London, the much-anticipated first Mondrian branded boutique hotel outside of the United States. A huge heaven dedicated to water, wellbeing and innovation.
As you arrive, your senses are calmed, you walk through a digital water projection, arriving in front of nude ‘Renaissance Man’ sculpture by Tom Dixon, based on a Neo Classical Roman bust. Made out of wood, the sculpture is created using a new 3D digital sculpting technique and acts as the personification of AGUA’s new ‘rebellious’ playground concept; relaxed, body-confident, professional yet spirited.
Design Research Studio under the creative direction of Tom Dixon has designed the six spacious treatment suites and Spa & Glamour Lounges. A striking, floor-to-ceiling Copper Hull Water Pool feature reflects the Roman water vessels in the Dry Relaxation Banquette, which also boasts a custom designed sofa filling one corner of the room.
Now it would have been a crime to visit and not experience their unique and pioneering Roman Bathhouse treatments. First up we booked in for the AGUA Mini Mud Cure with private steam bath! My therapist awoke me from a ball of bliss in the glamour lounge. Her outfit was a hand-woven towel tied around her neck with a matching stylish shower cap, I loved it! You can go nude or wear a bikini, I chose nothing; like the Moroccans. You lie down in a steam room where you are washed in black shea butter soap before being left to bake for 10 minutes! Fresh wanted it left and is consumed before you are scrubbed from head to toe. Your bodily circulation is improved and you are left feeling soft like a baby! You can enhance your treatment by opting for a mudpack! Try their 30 minutes for £55
My second treatment was a Bioactive Facial and Bergamot Back Booster from Sweedish brand Estelle and Thild – 80 minutes £95. My therapist Trillian was incredible. She sat down with me and spent time to get to know me and curate a bespoke experience for me. I hadn’t heard of Estelle and Thild before but Trillian explained that Mondrian is the only spa in the UK to start using the products. The facial melted away my skin leaving is glowing and radiant. The bergamot back booster was the perfect add on, she coated my body with a thick bergamot oil, using multiple techniques to release and relax the body into a heavenly state.
After my treatment you are invited to the glamour lounge to unwind into a handmade bed of comfort while the reflective waves flutter around you. I ordered a lemon and ginger tea, which was served in copper themed handpicked crockery from Tom Dixon. Their food menu included herbal teas, juices and super food choices! My attention was taken by their Vintage Sundae Selection, which included a Beetroot Ice Cream, Pear Sorbet with Greek yoghurt and dried fruit.
