For a different kinda Tavern we recommend you pop along to Mr Foggs Tavern in Covent Garden, sister to Mr Foggs in Mayfair. As with the original Mr Foggs you’ll find the same eccentricity we’ve grown to love and expect from them, the themes are much the same – only the Tavern is a little more intimate and split across two floors, a traditional Victorian Tavern downstairs and a Gin Parlour upstairs.
We headed up to the Gin Parlour to check out the fabulous offerings on the menu which is split into five ‘acts’, from some ‘ease them into’ aperitifs to some really punchy nightcaps. We start easy picking a Fig-Ty St Martins Lane and a Trans-Siberian Express cocktail to toast in the weekend and ordered a selection of their very eclectic snacks to soak it up, including; Sloe gin cured salmon & Keta caviar, British Cheeseboard, Quail eggs and Crispy Pigs Ears. We then finish of with another round of equally tasty cocktails (can’t remember the names exactly) before moving on to our usual, a champagne and a martini.
The Gin Parlour is quirky and perfect for gin enthusiasts, guests can go all out and explore some of the most interesting gins from around the world, (there’s over 300 of the most unique, rare and interesting gins on offer), alongside an array of tonics and botanicals. We are told guests can participate in a gin safari (recently launched) which takes them on an informative and potent gin tasting, with gin and tonics to start and finish (we’ve earmarked this for another day).
This concept is also going off site to Taste of London where they will be setting up an interactive G&T bar with separate safari tent hosting gin safaris throughout the festival… From 15th – 19th June, Mr Fogg’s will be taking guests on an exotic alfresco adventure in the first safari park pop-up in London Mr Fogg’s Safari Camp at Taste of London
Obviously non gin drinkers are catered for too at Mr. Foggs Tavern as we personally learned going through the extensive menu enjoying a few more cocktails (mostly champagne), maybe next time we’ll brave the Gin Safari – we have a few options too…
