‘It will help banish your cellulite, firm your butt and tighten your tummy.’
I wasn’t sure what a Russian Body Sculpting Massage consisted of, but already I was liking the sound of it.
My friendly masseuse from Lithuania, who trained at a beauty therapy school which aligns with Russian practices, continued filling me on the massage.
She added, that it might be painful and feel uncomfortable when she roughly pummeled my skin to help break down the fat cells but I shouldn’t be alarmed.
Feeling a little apprehensive but calmed by the slick atmosphere of the recently-opened Monnáy studio in Chelsea I proceeded to change into my robe.
Before the treatment, to calm me further, I opted for a pot of tea from the menu displayed on an iPad at the upstairs bar area.
I opted for the Happiness Beauty Tea, described as a ‘natural blend of tea for beauty, body and mind with white tea pai mu tan, rosehip and lady’s mantel herb’.
The fancy brew was served downstairs in a low lit consultation room, in a smart teapot accompanied by a china cup.
Once finished, I ventured to another treatment room for the pummeling to begin.
One of the great things about Monnáy is that it has a number of top-notch offerings, from non-invasive facial procedures to plush heated beds.
It felt pretty divine on a rainy London day, slipping on to the soft and toasty massage table.
The tummy was the first area that was concentrated on, and mine rumbled wildly as a contouring body cream was rubbed around my belly button.
All of the products used at Monnáy are from the Hungarian organic skincare brand Eminence.
Next up was the legs, with a good firm action followed by the chopping, pinching and pummeling that I’d been promised.
It was certainly a new sensation for me, but it felt very good especially as I fly a lot and my legs get a lot of wear and tear.
I was worried there wouldn’t be enough time in the 60-minute treatment for the whole body, but the back and arms also got some TLC.
I was really apprehensive about the treatment but my legs were tingly afterwards and felt rather strange.
‘You might see red marks appearing and that means the treatment has worked,’ the therapist told me.
She also said that my legs might feel like dancing, with enhanced blood flow.
She was right, they did.
And that night after my treatment, I hit the dance floor feeling like new!
I would highly recommend this massage to anyone whose legs are feeling weary and in need of a bit of zing.
I’ve never felt anything quite like it…
