This month Maria Black Jewellery will be launching its latest collection, ‘Occasional Dream’ on March 10th. The collection is inspired by David Bowie and is designed to bring out the inner 70’s rock star in us in the form of rebellious glamour. After the huge success of the Electric Avenue Pt.II, the Occasional Dream has all the well-known characteristics of a Maria Black collection focusing on stacking and creating your own style in gold, rose gold and oxidised silver.
MBJ’s minimalistic approach stems from Maria’s Danish roots. Born in Copenhagen to an Irish father and Danish mother, Maria grew up with the understated elegance of iconic luxury brand Georg Jensen. As she grew up, her travels took her to Brazil, India and Ibiza, which sparked her passion to pursue jewellery design. Maria trained for four years as an apprentice in Copenhagen and London, culminating in a Goldsmith degree with the highest honours in 2009. The crowning moment of her academic studies came when she won a design grant and received a personal congratulations from HRH Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.
Black has since taken the fashion world by storm with the launch of her eponymous line MBJ / Maria Black Jewellery. The line brings an edgy elegance to sexy, street style. With supremely sleek lines, geometric shapes and interchangeable elements to create your own look, the jewellery ranges from delicate to dramatic and feminine to fierce. The collection is a re-birth of contemporary cool.
Starting out with a very pure approach to precious metals, Maria used only the metal as the medium, without the “distraction” of stones. Instead she focused on clean uncluttered lines, geometric formations, subtle textures and repeated patterns. Inspired by her travels around India, she noticed the way Indians use every surface of the body for adornment. This inspired her to create delicate bands that you can combine to create intricate patterns on your fingers or wrists. Almost like tattoos – but without the ink.
Known for an array of coveted musts, such as multiple ear cuffs and tiny rings that you can wear up and down any finger, Maria Black Jewellery is not only a must-have for the elegant ladies who lunch, but also for the ultimate festival goers. Pieces in the collection include gorgeous bracelets chains linking them to rings as well as her best-seller Monocle necklace, with a circle that spins. Like lego, pieces can be combined together to form new shapes and designs.
Stars among the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Rihanna, Dido, Helena Christensen and Kesha are all wearers of Maria Black Jewellery. Treat yourself and visit the designers Twitter page as well as the Facebook page!
