LUNCH O’CLOCK: Buddha Bar, Knightsbridge

Lunch is not perhaps the first thing that pops to mind when thinking of the legendary Buddha Bar brand. Fancy dinner with fancy friends – yes; decadent cocktails and DJs – most definitely; lunch – hmm, let’s give it a go! While it may not be something you’d consider until prompted, lunch at Knightsbridge’s swankiest Asian fusion haunt is certainly worth a try. If you spend time in the area whether working or shopping (or both), then definitely give Buddha Bar’s lunch menu an opportunity. Complete with great service and relaxed atmosphere, it creates the perfect environment for both professional meetings, as well as catching up with friends over trays of sushi and cheeky afternoon cocktails.

For those of you not in the know, Buddha Bar is a legendary fine dining institution by Raymond Visan which first opened in Paris 1996. It was and still is regarded as one the most exciting venues in the city of love. Buddha Bar Paris and Buddha London cater to an affluent audience for whom looking great, feeling great and being treated better than great is a must. The patrons are invariably fashion conscious and appreciate a fusion of Asian food, music and company. Buddha Bar London opened for the second time in late 2012 and has quickly become much loved among the residents of Knightsbridge and surrounding areas.

Buddha Bar’s lunch menu offers a rich choice of starters, mains and desserts, with sushi and sashimi being the heavyweights of round one and warm dishes carrying the second one through to dessert. Having had the pleasure of sampling the majority of the menu, I would recommend it with confidence, especially when dining with more than just one person – the menu creates excellent opportunities for sharing and getting a taste for plenty.

Straightforward and simple, the lunch menu is also a perfect introduction to those foreign to Asian cooking and feel put off by the indulgent dinner menus seen at most Japanese and Asian restaurant in London. While the lunch menu doesn’t require taking out a second mortgage, it is still of reasonable price, but provides a full experience for your money.
