The Terrace Grill & Bar at London’s Le Méridien Piccadilly hotel has launched American Places and Faces, an exclusive photography exhibition by Mark Chilvers, in collaboration with American Airlines. The exhibition, which launches today and runs until 28th February 2014, documents Mark’s ‘50 states in 30 days’ trip around the United States through a series of portraits of the interesting characters he met along the way.

Featuring a diverse and intriguing range of people; from an astronaut and an Olympian to a chicken shop worker and a rodeo cowboy, the charming and spontaneous shots offer a welcome change to traditional landscape photography. By putting a real person centre stage, the photographs give each state a true sense of personality; the people in the photographs are shown to be as much a part of the state’s identity as the landscapes behind them.

In celebration of the exhibition, Le Méridien Piccadilly’s Chef Michael Dutnall has devised an ‘All American Afternoon Tea’, which features a range savouries and pastries inspired by classic American flavour combinations. We tried out the pastrami sandwich with Thousand Island dressing, and the New York cheesecake – not a cucumber sandwich in sight.

Also on offer are two specially created cocktails; The ‘Uncle Sam’; a fruity blend of Maker’s Mark Kentucky bourbon whisky, plum liqueur, lemon juice, homemade cinnamon syrup & apple juice and the ‘American Dream’; Maker’s Mark with lemon juice, scented cardamom seeds, Amaretto, fresh pineapple and orange bitters.

The ‘All American Afternoon Tea’ will be served daily in the Terrace Grill & Bar from 12pm to 6pm from 29th January to 28th February and costs £30 per person including an ‘Uncle Sam’ or ‘American Dream’ cocktail. Cocktails alone are priced at £12 each.
