LE BAB: The Kebab Renaissance

LE BAB: The Kebab Renaissance

Le Bab – not a middle-class term of endearment – is a brand new restaurant in Soho’s Kingly Court.

Perched up high on the 2nd floor, Le Bab are sure fire set to revolutionise and change London’s opinion of kebabs.

The thought-leaders and cooking demons from Le Bab’s team were previously at Le Gavroche and have said they are ‘reinvigorating kebabs with provenance, seasonality and technique’.

With none of that end-of-the-night kebab shop swagger, we entered the slick, setting. It was modern and very relaxed and housed a lively mixture of daters and pals alike.

The succinct menu offered us a nice choice of a couple of strong starters, some seasonal individual and sharing kebabs, some fresh sides and then desert.

We were able to try the winter kebab menu which showcased four kebabs including a Roe Deer Shish, with damson and isot pepper jam, cavolo nero kimchi, artichoke crisps and game mayo, a Free Range Chicken Shawarma with turban squash hummus, chicken crackling, winter pickles, Le Bab toum and biber chilli, and the BBQ Paneer Kebab, a heavy hitting vegetarian option, with beetroot and coconut puree, crispy onions, rainbow chard stems and curry mayo. Sharing kebabs for the table include a Rare Breed Pig’s Head and its crackling, with kohlrabi and carrot slaw, red onion and pomegranate molasses.

Alongside this we were also able to try some of their cocktails including the Ottoman Bandito, a heady mix of agave blanco tequila, dry vermouth, cardamom, pomegranate juice, orgeat and burnt fresh rosemary, Roman Holiday, a soothing synthesis of Sipsmith London Dry Gin, Ed’s homemade elderflower cordial, Lillet rose, and fresh mint.

We were also able to try some of the fantastic wine list which included everything from Czech natural wines to top French crus, with value a key priority throughout – a limited range of fine French wines were available at exceptionally low prices.

Le Bab offer their take on cheesy chips, the (soon to be cult) fondue fries which literally blew our minds – these you must try!

As the sexiest and most delicious kebab shop in town this is a place to both begin and end your night.
