Get you lazy ass, chicken-wing hungry butts to this spanking feasting food festivity! Woop! Yes, this may sound a little energetic but this place is fun and definitely not for the vegan-kind! Look for the black telephone box and you will discover Lazybones, Farringdons latest dining asset!
You can choose to sit outdoors in their courtyard area which will open up in the summer months however I would recommend enjoying the urban interior creations and graphic wall designs. Try and find the yellow paint spilling down the stairs and an oversized girl with illuminated eyes watching guests as they choose their sauces and pick ‘n’ mix popcorn toppings at the condiment station.
They offer a menu inspired by the slow cooking culture, that includes gourmet dogs, slow meats and spicy wings, and a bar offering hard drinks, specialist cold beers, ciders and cocktails. You can’t be too lazy because once you have fixated your eyes on the menu and selected your kill then you must go to the bar to order- canteen style!
We wanted to get a feel for the whole menu so we started with their popcorn, home-roasted seasoned nuts and dry cured meats with a trusted selection of cider and beer. We had an immense choice to choose from and drinking cider gave me a taste of the summer festival vibes to come. The popcorn comes unflavoured and fresh out of a vintage machine in a large brown paper bag. The child inside you gets to play as you are guided over to the condiment stand where there is a selection of large oversized silver-colored seasoning sprinklers, try and experiment and design your popcorn to your own taste, you can choose from Hot & Spicy, Cheddar Cheese, Sour Cream and Chive or Ranch- American style!
Next up, the slow-cooked meats. We conquered two types of their Wings, which come smothered in one of three house marinades: Sweet & Spicy, BBQ or Hot, and can be purchased in quantities of four (£4.95), eight (£10.95), 12 (£15.95). We loved the Sweet & Spicy kind! We went further and sampled their melt-in-the-mouth Pulled Pork & Slaw Sandwich (£7.95), loaded with eight hour-cooked pork shoulder in pale ale and served with cabbage, carrot, fennel, beetroot, celeriac, radish and yoghurt slaw. My dining partner immediately asked if they did take-out in preparation for his return trip- dangerous!!!! This place is great value for money!
The service was warm, friendly, comical and uplifting! We had great banter with Geoff, one of the collective managers who you could tell was all about the slow-meats and sauces! He gave us a run for our stomachs and chilli-tolerance, he even got us involved in a back to back virtual DJ session on their Secret DJ Iphone APP! Try and catch some visionary inspiration watching their old silent black and white movie screenings, a selection of their favorite cult classics.
It’s Rude To Stare asked Geoff, “What was the last thing that made you stop and stare?”
Geoff “The realisation of The Shard as I stood up close, understanding how monumentally and awe inspiring it was, walking past it when the sun was shining, I had a feeling of vertigo”
