British-German DJ/producer Lars Moston from Berlin is a solo artist as well as one half of Moston & Malente. He also regularly collaborates with Teenage Mutants (Off Recordings) and Ben Mono (Plant Music / Compost). You can find his tracks and remixes on labels such as No Brainer, Stil Vor Talent, Nurvous, Top Billin, Audio Safari, Moonbootique and Discobelle, among others.
When DJing, Lars Moston mixes up a unique blend of cutting edge House, ranging from Deep Disco grooves to outright bangers, time and place permitting. Always combining a forward- thinking track selection with dance floor functionality, Lars has raised roofs from San Francisco to Siberia with his own brand of positive party sound.
Joining us for RUDE on the 26th of September at Proud Galleries, we get to know Mr Moston!!!
Where are you and what are you going to be doing today?
I’m at home in Berlin today and I will be finishing off a remix, making a start on another and listening through a bunch of new music to see what will be worthy of taking with me to London for my dj set there.
How did you hear about It’s Rude To Stare?
I was playing at Feel Festival in Berlin this summer and It’s Rude To Stare was on before me. I thought the set was ace and we connected!
Must hear track of the month?
Mano Le Tough – Primative People (Tale Of Us Remix)
What is your earliest memory of music?
That might have been watching M/A/R/R/S – Pump Up The Volume on Top Of The Pops when I was a little kid. Probably one reason why I like sampling so much.
Can you tell us about your current releases?
I just released my “Two Hearts EP” on No Brainer as well as remixes for Him_self_Her (Sex Panda White), Grass Is Greener (Nurvous) and Edu Imbernon (Stil Vor Talent, with my mate Teenage Mutants). Over the next couple of weeks there will be remixes of mine coming out on Gris Musique (for Purple Disco Machine) and also on Gold Nite and No Brainer. And there will be new original releases alongside Teenage Mutants and on my own, and also a new Moston & Malente. Follow me here for all the news about those!
What’s your favorite hangout in London/Worldwide?
Been a little while since I was in London, so I hope somebody will show me my new favourite hangout there! I like Camden a lot, so I’m really happy to be playing there on Thursday! In Berlin, when I’m not hanging out at clubs like Chalet, Wilde Renate or Kater Holzig I like to go and meet up with friends and have a bite/drink around Friedrichshain (where I live) or Kreuzberg. In summer, it’s great to sit around in Berlin’s parks or by the river or go for a swim in one of the beautiful lakes. I miss the Berlin summer already.
Any new bands you are currently listening to we need to know about?
Bands are great but I’m usually too busy listening to House music, or making it, to check them out.
What’s in store for the next year?
I just heard I will be doing another Canada tour early next year. The last one was really amazing, so I’m looking forward to going back there a lot! I am also working on my releases for next year and some exciting new projects, including a secret one with the producer of one of the biggest German pop groups in history, but you won’t know it’s me because it’s a secret, haha.
What’s your favorite thing to do on a Sunday?
If I’m not flying back from some gig that would be sleep, have a nice Sunday roast, watch football.
What do you do to get away from everything?
Chill out on the sofa with a cup of tea and fire up the old Playstation.
What was the last thing that really made you stop and stare?
Thousands of smiling faces when I played at Fusion Festival this summer, it looked so awesome I almost forgot to put on the next tune.
