Trainers are a footwear close to my heart whether they’re retro classics or uber fashion forward – I’m guaranteed to be rocking a pair. And my personal favs (and particularly stareworthy pair) happen to be the classic Nike blazers. Constantly being reinvented, Blazers have been a welcomed edition to my wardrobe for years – coming in various colours and patterns- there is definitely a style out there for everyone. The Nike Blazers are the kind of kicks that are neat enough to rock as an everyday, comfy footwear option, teamed with jeans and a simple t-shirt or during the summer with cut-offs and a vest. What’s more the shape and sophisticated style of the blazer means it’s practically the perfect unisex sports shoe. His and hers anyone?!
Starting life way back in ’73, the Nike Blazer was the brand’s first ever hoop shoe. It was seen as a trailblazing (excuse the pun!) less bulky alternative to the other styles that were available. And the lightweight design offered enhanced performance for its wearer on the court, becoming an iconic part of the Nike trainer legacy. Nowadays, the blazer is seen as a fashion shoe with recent years seeing Nike push the boundaries on its classic incarnations with various collaborations and special editions.
So, here are my top three Nike Blazer designs:
1. The baller fresh, Nike Blazer High Suede Vintage combines bright colour ways in high quality leather and suede, I especially love the high top shape, which has remained the go to shoe for fashionistas and fashionistos getting in on the sporty look. My current favourites are the red suede offering, as seen on Cassie at Kanye West’s Paris fashion week show, but the rainbow spectrum of colours does mean I am often changing my mind!
2. We at IRTS love a shoe that isn’t afraid to take a walk on the wild side and there is no doubt that when Nike released the High Suede Vintage in leopard gold their designers were channeling their inner fashion beasts. The well-crafted design, made with elite materials combines classic craftsmanship with raw urban edge. You’ll definitely make a statement wearing these in the streets!
3. Finally, the last pick has to be the Nike x Liberty collaboration, a hook up which on paper sounded like it was a match made in hell rather than heaven, pleasantly surprised fashion and trainer freaks when the first collection was released back in 2009. The array of unique designs fuses Nike’s pioneering construction and design techniques, with the quintessentially British, bright and punchy floral prints of Liberty of London. Genius move and the perfect way to win fashion brownie points even when you’re off down the gym!
