I've walked around this little nook of Soho a few times and never stumbled across this gem. But if you get a chance, I can't recommend Sophie's Soho enough. Housed inside a former sex cinema and nightclub, the venue is pretty spectacular. Think high ceilings, raw red brick, pipes showing and a buzzing atmosphere. This is the kind of place you could base yourself for the day, hanging out to do work, seeing friends grabbing dinner and dancing in the speakeasy club downstairs come nightfall. On walking into the venue, there is a cosy conservatory area at the front, and then you immediately g...

Glenmorangie is celebrating the Golden Age of American Whiskey this March with the opening of Spice & Rye: a vibrant Speakeasy cocktail bar in the heart of Fitzrovia, London. The creation of the spice-inspired, roaring 1920s-style temporary bar marks the release of Glenmorangie Spìos: the 9th release in the Highland single malt’s explorative Private Edition range. Glenmorangie Spìos (Gaelic for ‘spice’ and pronounced ‘spee-oss’) is the first ever single malt scotch that has been entirely aged in American ex-rye whiskey casks and showcases Glenmorangie’s expertise and experimentation with ...

With fantastically lurid live jazz, and an entry system that involves wondering through a shop front, the speakeasy vibes are bold, and we like it. Did we mention that this bar is on the site of Jack Solomon’s infamous boxing gym, set seductively and secretly in the heart of Soho? Proudly displayed behind the bar is one of Jack Solomon’s boxing trophy’s, and the emblem is suitably displayed on coasters and subtle branding. You might then think that because of...

It used to be the site of a raucous gay club but thanks to a whimsical transformation it is unrecognisable from its former guise. The only hint of its toe-tapping past is the light up disco floor which remains on the top floor. It was a Wednesday night and the ground floor was bustling and a little overwhelming. Thankfully we were led away from the throng upstairs to an empty room known as The Parlour. We were...

I'd heard that Notting Hill's favourite underground cocktail bar / eatery / party flat, The Little Yellow Door, had launched one of the first 'emoji menus', so I hopped on a tube from east to west to check it out. Firstly, if you haven't been to this tucked away spot, conveniently located right next to the tube, it's a must. It's been one of my go-to little hideaways for years. The eclectic party flat, which was once almost threatened with closu...

A recent opening in soho just off Oxford Circus the bar is the brainchild of of award-winning bartenders Andy Mil, Elliot Ball and Olly Brading, co-owners of The Cocktail Trading Co, who were previously responsible for the London Cocktail Club. The bar gives off the illusion of a speakeasy as you enter, dark and lowly lit, it's small (50 capacity) and inviting but you also get a sense that maybe you are entering a 'secret' b...
