I've walked around this little nook of Soho a few times and never stumbled across this gem. But if you get a chance, I can't recommend Sophie's Soho enough. Housed inside a former sex cinema and nightclub, the venue is pretty spectacular. Think high ceilings, raw red brick, pipes showing and a buzzing atmosphere. This is the kind of place you could base yourself for the day, hanging out to do work, seeing friends grabbing dinner and dancing in the speakeasy club downstairs come nightfall. On walking into the venue, there is a cosy conservatory area at the front, and then you immediately g...

With fantastically lurid live jazz, and an entry system that involves wondering through a shop front, the speakeasy vibes are bold, and we like it. Did we mention that this bar is on the site of Jack Solomon’s infamous boxing gym, set seductively and secretly in the heart of Soho? Proudly displayed behind the bar is one of Jack Solomon’s boxing trophy’s, and the emblem is suitably displayed on coasters and subtle branding. You might then think that because of...

It used to be the site of a raucous gay club but thanks to a whimsical transformation it is unrecognisable from its former guise. The only hint of its toe-tapping past is the light up disco floor which remains on the top floor. It was a Wednesday night and the ground floor was bustling and a little overwhelming. Thankfully we were led away from the throng upstairs to an empty room known as The Parlour. We were...

On walking into our room's large and lofty bathroom I was left pretty speechless on casting my eyes on the loo. There, next to the grand free-standing tub and shower unit, was one of the quirkiest hotel toilets I'd seen in a while. A carved dark wood bench-cum-church pew stood waiting to be investigated. I went over and lifted the lid to find a toilet bowl hidden there. It was accompanied by a discreetly-placed flush handle on...

Since opening in May 2017, it's already become one of our regular haunts. It's our go-to for meeting friends, work lunches and impromptu catch ups - their low key casual setting and delicious slow cooked ribs has us hooked!

It's the latest collaboration from the teams behind Sovereign Loss (Chris Dennis and Joe St Clair-Ford) and the Barrio family of bars (Ferdie Ahmed and Ani Kyriacou) and takes its inspiration from Sixties haunt, ‘The Pinstripe Club’, and its colourful history of scandal and infamy.
