We’ve been fans of Hawksmoor and its sister brand Foxlow for years now, so it was music to our ears when we learnt that Foxlow Soho restaurant & bar was opening just off Golden Square. Since opening in May 2017, it’s already become one of our regular haunts. It’s our go-to for meeting friends, work lunches and impromptu catch ups – their low key casual setting and delicious slow cooked ribs has us hooked!
We were recently alerted of their daily breakfast & brunch, which includes Foxlow’s Fried Chicken, Egg & Croissant Waffle, Ham Hock Hash Browns with Spinach, Fried Eggs & Sausage Gravy, Short Rib on Jalapeño Cornbread, Ogleshield Cheese & Fried Egg and Cannellini Beans on Sourdough Toast with Fresh Herbs, Chilli & Tomatoes. Classics include Ricotta Pancakes, Butter & Maple Syrup, Home-made Granola with Greek Style Yoghurt & Seasonal Fruit Compote, Foxlow Breakfast and also a new Foxlow Vegetarian option.
Rare Breed Spare Ribs though not on the brunch menu are an absolute must for us, so we ordered those to start. In fact, we don’t think we’ve ever made a trip to Hawksmoor or Foxlow without ordering a side order of these divine tasty bites – it’s worth a trip down for these alone. We also ordered a wholesome Kale, Avocado & Fresh Herb Salad with Toasted Seeds off the main menu with a side of Mac and Cheese (another Foxlow must) and Avocado, Chilli & Lime on Toast with Eggs from the brunch menu.
There’s an option to make the brunch a boozy affair by going bottomless with either a Foxlow Mimosa, a delightful alternative to the usual orange and fizz combination, this one is made of gin, homemade grapefruit sherbet instead or a choice of their house mix Bloody Mary, which has a real kick. We ordered one of each and shared so we had the best of both worlds.
This new offering like the others also has a fantastic selection of cocktails; including favourites such as Miami Dolphin (strawberry-infused rum, lime, pina colada foam) and St John (gin, lemon, plum eau de vie) plus new additions like the Shaquiri (Manzanilla, lime, Peychaud’s bitters), Corpse Reviver No. Blue (gin, cocchi americano, Curacao, lemon, absinthe) and classics like Clover Club (gin raspberry, lemon, egg white) on their recently expanded cocktail list. We tried a few of these too!
Full of delicious food and a little tipsy we leave this place content with plans to return again very soon – there’s much to go back for too…Foxlow Soho also features weekly specials, such as Short Rib Wednesdays, where smoked beef short ribs with kimchi makes a return to the menu one night a week. Sunday Roasts include beef with all the trimmings or chicken pot roast with cider braised turnips, parsnips & heritage carrots. And those wishing to bring their own drinks can enjoy free corkage for wine on Tuesdays and can bring their own beer on Mondays.
