Foxlow restaurant and bar from Will Beckett and Huw Gott first opened on St. John Street in Clerkenwell in 2013, (there are now four including Stoke Newington, Chiswick and Balham) and has become a firm fixture for us and one of our go tos for our meaty cravings. Warm, comfortable, with a lived-in interior, add to the relaxed, friendly atmosphere that we have become accustomed to and with it’s delicious hearty offerings we know it’s always going to be a winner.
We heard they launched a new Spring menu so naturally we were eager to try out the no doubt delicious offerings. We’re told the main inspiration behind the new dishes are the great spring produce that’s available at the moment – peas, Jersey royals, asparagus, as well as local producers – meat, for example, comes from Turner & George, the delicious lamb is salt marsh lamb from Essex; the fish is all sustainable and caught off the South Coast, and the bread comes from Little Bread Peddler in Bermondsey.
We’re always partial to a Burrata starter and this one arrived with Heritage Tomatoes & Avocado which were,as expected, divine. Also, a trip to Foxlow (or Hawksmoor even) is incomplete without the slow cooked Tamworth Spare Ribs, these never disappoint – absolutely out of this world good.
For the mains we ordered the rib-eye steak and the pork rib–eye, both were cooked to perfection, tender and juicy. Sides were usual favourites, chips and mac and cheese – yummy!!
Whilst we went for classics, we hear the Herdwick Lamb T-Bones with Jerseys, Peas & Mint is a must for meat fans or the Hake with White Beans & Roast Tomatoes or House Cured Salmon with Potato & Dill Salad for the fish lovers (something to try on our next trip). For dessert we shared a delicious sticky toffee pudding and left the restaurant content and happy as always.
