FOUR HUNDRED RABBITS: Neighbourhood spot in Nunhead serving sourdough pizzas and Gelupo gelatos.

FOUR HUNDRED RABBITS: Neighbourhood spot in Nunhead serving sourdough pizzas and Gelupo gelatos.

If sourdough pizza and craft beer in South London are what you’re after, look no further as we’ve got the perfect place for you; Four Hundred Rabbits in Nunhead. It’s a new casual dining spot serving delicious crusts and collaborating with the finest street food vendors in the city.

So what’s their secret? Their sourdough bases are proved for 48 hours before being cooked in the wood fire oven at around 400 degrees, giving the pizzas a flavoursome and lightly chewy crust. Yum!

Their latest collaboration is with Up in my Grill, purveyors of the perfectly cooked steak. The pizza is layered with a red chimichurri sauce and topped with braised beef shin, Malbec onions and a bone marrow & anchovy bread crumb. Around for a limited time only, this vibrant concoction is one not to be missed.

Others worth a mention are the classic Margherita (never disappoints) and the ‘White’ pizza (no tomato) topped with courgette ribbons, feta and a garlic & pine nut pesto.

Aside from top quality pizza, Four Hundred Rabbits also have an extensive craft beer menu. Smaller brewers from around the world make the line-up; Mikeller, Beavertown and Fourpure to name a few. Not to mention, their famous £4 Negroni’s shouldn’t go amiss!

Playing laid back tracks from the likes of Bonobo and Toro y Moi, the Nunhead spot offers a relaxed, low-key setting. The vibe is reflected in the décor as large pin boards back the walls with graphic art layered on top. Pictures of rabbits in magician hats and cigarette smoking rabbits entertain your wandering eye.

Desserts are bought in by artisan Italian ice-cream makers, Gelupo. We went all out with 3 scoops of Fior di Latte, bitter chocolate and hazelnut. They’re pretty amazing on their own, but if you fancy jazzing them up, a selection of sauces and toppings can be added. Think whipped cream, mini marshmallows and crushed amaretti!

Although a little far for us to travel, Four Hundred Rabbits was definitely worth the trip. It’s a family friendly, casual and reasonably priced spot for South London. A second restaurant resides in Crystal Palace. Maybe if we ask nicely, they might open a third North of the river…
