In this increasingly morose world of hierarchical duality, DeLooze are leading the chant for solidarity. With their theatrical world of haunting, grandiose, dark pop narratives, the artist’s fourth wall is blurring. It is their belief that in these times of hardship we should encourage community and collaboration, their recruitment drive is a call-to-arms, for fans to come and experience a connection both with the artist on stage, and with each other.
Many recruits have already rushed to respond to the challenge – signing up to receive their free patch, and marking their allegiance to the movement with an online post. This is a community and it’s founded on respect for each other, from the artist to the fan, and vice versa, for their individual importance in building something truly original through the power of interaction. This is The Glass Army. #JOINTHEMARCH
The progressive brainchild behind this reactionary shift is Stacey DeLooze, a musical and visual artist with a new perceptive ability. The DeLooze project is committed to breaking down dualities, and discovering the wealth of the transcendent space between two identities. Her songwriting delicately explores this essential juxtaposition in our glass-like fragility, and her upcoming debut enacts the drama of this cohesive narrative – where she begins stripped bare, with a raw sound, before gathering in strength to evolve into a frenzied warrior.
Following recent single Lost Army (Fierce Panda/Fandango Records), “Holler” is the second release from the accumulation of life events that led to Stacey’s “crazy, epic album”. Perfectly named, the EP opens with a brimming tension, with the electrifying clash between acoustic and electronic, before exploding with breathtaking bombast into its joyous dark-pop chorus. Reminiscent of the grandiose pop of contemporaries such as Bat For Lashes, it boldly situates Stacey as the torchbearer of a tradition of female vocal artists, from the poignancy of Edith Piaf, to the eccentric originality of Kate Bush, and the elegiac intensity of PJ Harvey.
Delooze will will be joining us for our weekly night RUDE at Proud Camden on September 26th this month. We spoke to Stacey DeLooze to get the insider scoop before we see her live next week!
