It’s hard to believe that Citadel is only in its second year, brought to us by the clever teams behind Wilderness here in the UK and Bonnaroo over in the USA, it was a special Sunday in Victoria Park, allowing Londoners to escape the daily chaos and stress of London life. This year it is back, and it looks like it is going to be bigger, better and taster than ever.
Bringing together the finest in music, food, arts and entertainment, Citadel shows that Sunday’s can be more than just Netflix in bed. This year the Icelandic music heroes Sigur Ros are headlining, along with other mellow acts such as Lianne le Havas, Caribou and Submotion Orchestra. Alongside this there are a whole range of workshops and activities, with the chance to try your hand at swing dancing, screen printing or even wildlife drawing! For the more, how shall I put it… sedate festival-goer, there is plenty for you too. We recommend lazing around in the comedy tent or heading down to Sunday Papers live, because lets face it, none of us read all of the Sunday papers anyway!
Food is central to the festival, and this year Citadel have invited some of the restaurant world’s biggest names to Victoria Park, putting on the feast this year is Stephen Harris from the oh-so wonderful Sportsman who will be serving up a hearty 3 course feast. If you haven’t scored a ticket to the feast, don’t worry because there are plenty of other options – DF/Mexico will be there with their taco truck as well as street food from the likes of Smokestak, Anna Mae’s, Bubbledogs and many more. For suffering after a big Saturday night, there is the 1800 brunch saloon at the Sunday Papers Live stage, serving up Bloody Marias (not for the faint-hearted!) and at lunchtime, will be host the ‘Thinking Drinkers’ Ben McFarland and Tom Sandham. The boys are starting off the tour of their most recent show ‘Around the World in 80 drinks’ teaching us to ‘drink less and drink better’…. now there is a lesson we should all be learning!
