This summer you’ll get the opportunity to join in a pool party like no other. Indulge in champagne, swimming and poolside fun at Tooting Bec Lido this 30th August as Chandon sparkling wine hosts a fabulous summer party not to missed.
The incredible synchronized swimming group Aquabatix will be performing and it’s worth going for this alone. These ladies really are world class; they perform internationally at high-profile events, for top celebs and have also wowed the crowds (and judges) on Britain’s Got Talent.
Londoners who head to Tooting Bec Lido to attend the event will also enjoy DJ performances, vintage style waitresses offering poolside service, pool volleyball matches, ultimate cheese toasties sold from a vintage ‘cheese truck’, ice cream and cookie sandwiches and of course, plenty of Chandon. All guests will also receive their very own gift bag on entry, full of Chandon goodies.
If that’s not a pool party, then I don’t know what is.
To give us a taste of what’s in store on the day, It’s Rude to Stare went along to a VIP swimming session hosted by the Aquabatix team and Chandon to learn the basics of synchronized swimming and enjoy some mid-morning bubbles. And we can confirm: it’s nowhere near as easy as these ladies make it look!
Katie and Adele from Aquabatix taught us some basic moves and we then formed a routine, to Frank Sinatra’s Come Fly With Me. With not even half of the strength or flexibility these wonder women possessed, we attempted to glide, kick, float, somersault and jump around the pool. Whilst we didn’t quite make the Rio 2016 standard, we did get a full body workout without even realizing.
It took a lot of energy, concentration and stamina to make it work. Aware of Katie’s graceful gliding next to me, I try not to flap about too much, instead imitating the calm, confident composure and the winning smile of the Olympian. Watching our video back, I’m not sure I quite achieved it, but truthfully, I was impressed by the results. It looked something like a routine at the end of it, even with a professional swimming beside us. The patience and skill of our teachers made the experience both fun and challenging and we felt like we’d really earned the chilled glass of Chandon waiting for us.
So more about the bubbles: Chandon is an Argentinian sparkling wine that launched here in the UK in May this year. If there is one thing I know the Argentinians do well, that’s wine and Chandon is no exception. Light, fruity and refreshing, I would say it’s a perfect summer accompaniment but I can imagine it working exceptionally well at Christmas too or any other time of the year for that matter.
The winery in Mendoza, Argentina was discovered when Oenologist Director at Moet & Chandon, the famous Renaud Poirier was seeking out unexplored territories where exceptional New World sparkling wines could be produced. Between 1957 and 1959, Poirier conducted several oenological trials, convincing himself that Argentina, specifically the high altitude cool climate district of Agrelo in Mendoza, was the ideal place to locate Moet & Chandon’s first winery outside of France. He wasn’t wrong and the fabulous Chandon Argentina was born.
The pool party is the perfect time to sample this sparkling wine, so buy your ticket, mark the date in your diary and see out the summer at Tooting Bec Lido enjoying great wine, food and entertainment.
