BLOK is an inspirational fitness studio newly opened in Clapton in East London. The area has evolved dramatically over the last few years and BLOK is surely another marker point in its ongoing transformation.
The entrance to BLOK is enjoyably hidden; my first arrival felt like I was discovering something secretive! You go through a brick wall entrance passed brewers, fashion studios and immersive event spaces, which are happily nestling in the old arches for what has become a modern conversion of a Victorian tram depot.
This incredible new fitness studio challenges the conventions of the gym in both its praxis and practice. BLOK provides an industrial yet refined backdrop for clients to experience a range of fitness classes from rigorous boxing to dynamic yoga sessions.
I tried Dance Fit, a high intensity workout, which launched me into to my weekend. Other unique classes include Primal Movement and Calisthenics. I’m also a big fan of their BLOK–bumps, BLOK-babies and BLOK-party classes! The two BLOK studios offer very different but complimentary approaches to fitness. The focus at BLOK is always on developing skills for each client whilst delivering stimulating and engaging workouts.
The studios are managed by Andrew Clarke and Hannah Almond, who have selected BLOK fitness experts from across London’s top studios, to ensure the highest calibre and quality of learning is delivered in order to re-energise and inspire each client.
This is an evolving exhibition space, with a focus on work that represents raw, primal human movement, currently including work from widely acclaimed artist Arran Gregory.
… And don’t forget to get your post-workout fix! Their café provides juices from Botanic Lab and coffee by Square Mile as well as signature BLOK shakes and BLOK Broth Bar.
