Take your tastebuds on a trip to the south of France courtesy of one of the city’s top boutique hotels Blakes London.
Nestled in the heart of Kensington and tucked away on a quiet street, this spot has entertained everyone from Kate Moss to Gwyneth Paltrow over the past four decades.
It boasts low-key theatrical flair courtesy of interior designer Anouska Hempel, with lashings of black and gold to seduce you into staying for one more martini than you should.
The hotel’s latest offering – a food menu and overnight package inspired by a taste of Provence – is another reason to pop on by.
I ventured to the jewel box of a place on a Thursday night to dine on the three-course meal, and imagine myself sauntering through lavender fields instead of the concrete streets outside.
The food at Blakes is always divine and the new themed offering doesn’t disappoint.
There are several courses with ingredients inspired by Provence, as well as summer cocktails infused with lavender aromas and mixed with Monkey 47 gin.
To start we got a melt-in-the-mouth plate of beetroot cured salmon, followed by the tenderest serving of duck breast I’ve had in a good while.
This came with an earthy assortment of carrots and turnips.
To finish, we left just enough room for an artfully presented round of blueberry and lavender pannacotta topped with moreish purple coloured macaroons.
If you’re vegetarian or vegan, never fear as the Blakes team can rustle you up something that will fit the French theme and complement the specially-created cocktails.
I’m not a fan of egg white and the bar team were also able to craft the drinks minus this ingredient.
There are three cocktails on the new Blakes Bees x Monkey 47 menu including Fields of Provence, Blakes Bee (a nod to the beehives being nurtured on the roof) and 47 Monkeys.
My favourite of the three was the first tipple, with a clean and zingy blend of Monkey 47, Suze bitters, honey water infused with lavender, egg white, lavender honeycomb and lemon juice.
However, my friend was more partial to the 47 Monkeys which includes punchy mix of Monkey 47 sloe gin, Monkey 47, Peychaud’s bitters, Perrier Jouët Rosé, lavender foam, strawberry, lime juice and basil.
After a good few hours enjoying our sensory journey, it was time to head out with the taste of Provence lingering on our lips.
If you wish to extend your trip to Provence, be sure to book Blakes’ Honey & Lavender package (from £449).
The luxury stay includes an overnight stay fo two people, a private beekeeping workshop, an in-room lavender massage, the full dining experience and a lavender posy gift to take home.
Our verdict? J’adore!
