There’s no better place to be than in a warm, sunny London. The streets are full with happy people, lapping up much needed vitamin D and passing the time on street corner pubs with cold pints and red faces. But sometimes the weather can be a little too punishing, especially if like me, you work in an air-less mews office that radiates heat like the sun itself.
So, after trawling the streets of Soho, post work on a barmy afternoon you can understand my pure pleasure at the offer of a fruity cocktail in a colourful air-conditioned bar – or rather, Barzinho. A Brazilian themed pop up that’s happily situated under Archer Street in Soho, where the music is lively, street art adorns the walls and knowledgeable staff are ready to get you in the festive spirit of summer.
Barzinho’s bar manager, Benjamin Purslow has created a fantastic array of cocktails including the award winning ‘Redeemer’, made with Leblon Caçhaca, Acai infused Campari, fresh passion fruit and lime, with a hit of vanilla, which was a fruity delight.
A slightly odd number was the ‘Go-Go Guava’, Tanqueray Gin shaken with Goji liqueur, guava and fresh lime juice, served up and garnished with glow sticks. The taste itself was nice, although I’m not entirely sure that a drink should be garnished with something so highly inedible!
We had to try the ‘Barzinho’ – Grey Goose vodka shaken with mango liqueur, fresh lime, pineapple and coconut water, and garnished with a blue cherry, which was fresh and light with the coconut water – something I have never seen before.
We arrived quite early so the evening was only getting started. However, I’m sure as the night draws closer and the summer air cools off outside, it’s underground at Barzinho where the energy is hot.
