Bambuddha restaurant is a stunning hideaway, a destination-only hotspot near San Juan, home to celebrities and in the know lifestyle lovers; it boasts a luxurious bar, indoor and outdoor dining and a large boutique shop, including a high-end erotic section. The design is structured like an Asian temple with three giant stone Buddhas representing the restaurant’s philosophy; tolerance, freedom and respect.
We arrived early evening at 6pm, seated on an open-air table adjacent to one of the warm stone Buddha sculpture. We looked up at the clear blue skies and the stunning interior surrounding us. Large hardback menus were placed in our hands and an incredibly warm team was armed to meet our every need as waves of Balearic music was spun by their DJ.
Cocktails are key here, many people travel here simply to enjoy their creative menu which offers an extensive variation of classics and bespoke blends such as their Bamburrita cocktail, a coriander infused tequila, shaken with refreshing watermelon, agave syrup, lime juice, chili and salt. I personally fell in love with their sake selection; the Taisetsu Sake was the perfect partner to compliment their tasting menu.
The food menu was rather generous and tempting. I took a big gulp, contemplating while holding their heavy Asian-inspired menu, flicking through the pages, each dish looked divine with luring descriptions, ample dish’s to suit all personalities and moods. The toughness of my decision was easily removed by opting for their seductive tasting menu, their head chef’s selection of their most affluent dishes. A 9-course extravaganza of assorted delights served with exceptional service and passion.
The Bambuddha Tasting Menu was a journey of flavour and feist. The 9 courses may be rather daunting; I must admit that after a week in Ibiza, my appetite wasn’t quite up to standard however I was assured that each course was a small tasting portion of the main servings. Our favorites of the pick were the Atlantic French Baby Scallops, gratinated with a 100% fresh wasabi topping, steamed spinach, pickled wasabi and dehydrated yuzu. The Homachi, Wagyu and O Toro Nigiri selection were also deliciously fresh and flavoursome.
Every restaurant has it’s signature dish which people rave about, the signature dish recommended to us at Bambuddha was the Kowloon Spicy Crab Legs. When the giant orange legs arrived, heads on surrounding tables turned. We experienced succulently, roasted legs with a spicy creamy sauce, served with chili flakes and lime. The combination was totally unique, sending my taste buds into a euphoric turmoil! I was also pleasantly surprised as the rich flavor of the Tempered Beef Tataki. Having reached our seventh course, struggling to consume dessert we were visually entertained by their infamous Dragon Balls Dessert, a giant ball of frozen ice cream, deep friend and covered in fire breathing alcohol.
The end of our dinner can only be described with total satisfaction. In contrast to the tranquility of our arrival, there was a new high-energy mood which had been progressively developing throughout the evening; the DJ had evolved, pumping up the beats, playing a mix of moody deep house. There’s a sense that the night is only just beginning but it’s already 11pm and it’s a Monday, the tables are fully booked with new arrivals eager to fill our seats.
