It’s normally around this point in the month when I wonder what edible goods might actually be lurking in my back garden and thankfully the ‘Urban Edibles’ supper club last week was able to educate me further.
Besides the football tormented lawn and the bog-average conifer London is in fact full of flora and fauna ripe for the chomping.
Ask For Janice the Modern British restaurant and bar in Smithfield’s Market, played host to the the Urban Edibles supper club launch party last Wednesday. This mid-week mange taught guests about urban London ingredients and the ever trendy and not to mention economical art of foraging.
The menu features a selection of 6 retro classics which have been spruced up with the freshly foraged ingredients. Small plates such as a hot and spicy horseradish soup and wood pigeon with Highgate rowanberry jelly and chickweed circulated the rain safe basement room, with the cod cheeks with Stoke Newington wild fennel not circulating enough!
The forraging didn’t stop there, behind the stick they were serving up Clapton plum fizz (with you guessed it plums foraged from Clapton) and Rowanberry Martinis.
For Just £10, Urban Edibles is an almost luxurious dabble into foraging from the comfort of the bar.
