Having spent 10 days in Lagos, Nigeria this summer, my love for Fela Kuti has mushroomed beyond my already existing passion. Meeting his friends and family at The Jazzhole as well as hanging out at The Shrine, have been inspiring and and nourishing experiences which have allowed me to expand my understanding of where the Fela legend came from as well as what it is like in his home town.
His influence on the world is expanding still, once people here his music, they tend to become completely absorbed which is why i’m very excited to shout about this exciting ‘Celebration of Fela’ music event at The Jazz Cafe on October 26th, 19.00-23.00.
We are very lucky to have Bukky Leo and Black Egypt retell many of the Nigerian multi-instrumentalist’s hits at the Jazz Café. Tickets are just £10 and will be snapped up quickly! BUY TICKETS HERE
Fela Kuti is a pioneer of Afrobeat, a genre he is attributed as to creating-subsequently gifting the world songs such as Beasts of No Nation and Water Get No Enemy, a “celebration” is perhaps fitting of a man who has attributed so much.
