An innovative new event will launch this autumn combining food from one of London’s most exciting chefs with cocktails and art. Popping up in East London in October, 50:50 will take guests on an unforgettable creative culinary adventure using only organic and sustainable produce.
50:50 is the first solo project from talented chef Will Hemming whose most well known projects have included the acclaimed Prêt à Diner events, Europe’s largest restaurant pop-up concept. The event’s title has been inspired by 50% of the evening being dedicated to art and 50% of it dedicated to food, guaranteed to stimulate all the senses. The ratio of 50:50 will be played out throughout the entire event, with even the dishes being composed of half raw and half cooked ingredients. 50:50’s commitment to healthy food is apparent in the ethos of ‘ Chew no evil, bite no evil, swallow no evil’ underpinning the entire project.
On arrival, guests will enter a room adorned with beautiful paintings by the talented Meru Art to enjoy a ‘surprise’ amuse bouche with prosecco. Meru is an emerging international artist who has been gaining attention for her works and has had successful exhibitions in Estonia, Denmark, Norway and Britain.
Will has created a menu which takes its inspiration from the art world, and each course will be paired with delicious fruit and vegetable cocktails created to complement each dish perfectly. Diners will start with The Palette of Art, beautifully presented on a painter’s palette and consisting of Tapioca with Cauliflower Cream, Hummus, Sweetcorn Brandade and Dehydrated Vegetable Crisps, accompanied with The Fiftjito, a mini-Mojito style cocktail, followed by The Smoke Box, a theatrical dish where Scallops are smoked on the spot and served with 3-Way Peas and Pancetta Crisps, washed down with The Nutty Refresher, a sparkling blend of Prosecco, Celery, Apple and Cucumber.
The main course will consist of The Master of Cheek, sous vide ox cheeks with Heritage Carrots, Dehydrated Horseradish Kale, Chargrill Marinade and Red Wine Jus paired with the Chef’s Choice cocktail, a chilled blend of Red Wine, Tomato, Celery, Worcester Sauce and Pepper. Guests will finish Under The Bubble Tree with Raw Coconut and Cashew Nut Marshmallow and Blackberry in different textures and temperatures served in the shape of a tree, true to 50:50’s artistic ethos.
Throughout the course of the evening guests will also be able to buy bottles of Finest Fizz champagne to accompany their meal. Finest Fizz source their champagnes from independent, artisan producers , ensuring the highest quality of drink.
